In order to make sure that your arm workout is as potent as possible, I would recommend training both your biceps and triceps within the same workout. Not everyone agrees that this is the best way to go, but I really feel that the huge pump you feel in your arms when you combine the muscle groups, lead to better nutrient uptake and ultimately much bigger arms. I like to combine 3 sets of a primary excise like barbell curls with 2 sets of an auxiliary exercise like incline curls. After that I’ll work in 3 sets of skull crushers followed by 2 sets of triceps push downs.

In order to gain muscle mass, one of the most important things that you can do to speed up the whole process is to simply limit your workouts to 20 – 40 minutes of all out and focused effort. A lot of guys think that their muscle building workouts need to be in the 1 – 2 hour time frame in order to be effective, but this is simply not true. Typically all it takes to pack on some muscle mass is 20 minutes of really all out effort in the gym.

Another area where beginning bodybuilders typically drop the ball is in the number of workouts that they try to cram into each week. A lot of guys are training 6 – 7 days a week and still not seeing any results at all. Take your foot off the pedal a bit and focus on hitting the gym for 3 – 4 really intense workouts each week. That’s all it really takes to gain muscle mass over time. After about a month of short and intense workouts, you should begin to notice some decent muscle mass increases.
