The Guitar My Father Gave Me
I was pretty excited whenever I was given a used acoustic guitar from my father, and it was one that he had when he was younger and learned to play on. He thought it be a great idea if I learned to play on the exact same guitar that he did, and I was very excited to get started. Of course it is much harder to learn how to play the guitar than I had anticipated, but I decided to stick with it and my father taught me how to read music and play it. After being a long time user of guitars made of alder and the brighter sounding maple, I have started to enjoy the tone from mahogany bodied guitars. The Ibanez S470 has entered my lineup and I’ve really liked the whole package, such as tone, looks, quality and playability. This whole S series from Ibanez seems to be the exact thing I needed to shake up my whole guitar playing experience.
The Ibanez S470 is quite light for a mahogany guitar and it’s all in the unique body design. It looks like a strat but it sure doesn’t sound like one; much better! The tone is closer to that of an LP but at half the weight (well almost). One mod I did was swap out the bridge pickup for a DiMarzio Evolution I had laying around and wow what a difference in output and versatility.
They’re not making this guitar anymore and that’s a real shame because it’s one of the better ones I’ve had the privilege to own. I’ve really enjoyed the overall quality of the guitar and all the different tonal options I been able to create with subtle tweaks. I’m quite handy with electronics so it’s pretty easy for me to swap out electronics and test various setups.

Some would say that Music Theory Worksheets have no place in the elementary school, and such a thing as elementary music worksheets shouldn’t exist. Why would they say such a thing? Well a lot of the traditions of music teaching are aural based, and the approaches of Orff and Kodaly use a lot of aural methods. Children hear the music first, and then participate in it, and lastly understand it written on paper. My feeling is that all these things are right, we should definitely be starting with the aural music, and then doing lots of playing, but we should not be ignoring the written side of music and leaving until the high school. If we can introduce music theory in a fun way in the elementary school then we’ll find that children will have a much greater understanding later in life. Music theory will then never become a drag for the student, like it so often does now.
